Dicranum, also known as Fork Moss or Wind-blown Moss, is a light, tufting colony-former that brings upright texture and softness to enclosed landscapes. Stems can reach up to 10cm with fine leaves along the full height, giving a lush, vertical look that contrasts beautifully with flat carpet mosses.

About the Species

In the wild, Dicranum is found in sclerophyll bushlands on leaf litter and low-fertility soils in high-rainfall, well-ventilated areas. Colonies break apart easily into individual plants or small clumps, which gives you flexible planting options. Many creators place the entire colony on top of the substrate for a natural, windswept look.

Care Notes

• Water: Use a very small amount rain water, cooled boiled water for 10 minutes, or demineralised water. Avoid unfiltered tap water.
• Feeding: Moss and lichens do not respond well to plant fertilisers. If needed, enrich the substrate with a mild organic compost amendment rather than fertilising the moss directly.
• Environment: Ideal for closed terrariums, paludariums, and vivariums with good humidity and airflow balance. Do not over water.
